One of the greatest assets at the Nonprofit Resource Center is its staff. The organization has a team of three dynamic women. They are creative, big idea people who get work done. They have a great sense of humor and drink a lot of coffee together. They put the FUN in Philanthropy.

Cato lives, works, and plays in Estes Park and has served as the Program Director for a local nonprofit organization, Estes Valley Crisis Advocates, since 2018. Gena Duran
Diversity Engagement Coordinator

Meeting one-on-one with organizations that want to reach a broader audience, listening and influencing policy and program development. Connecting.

Duran is 15th generation on the land of Colorado and New Mexico. She grew up in a socialized mindset of not believing she would get far in life. She understood that it really makes the most sense for her to quit high school and work more (which she did). Well, Duran is about to get her doctorate.

"My intrinsic motivation is hope and resilience. This allows me to motivate the individuals who don’t feel they belong or might be included. Anyone that thinks, “you get what you get, and you don’t make a fit”...I want to help them want more. For ALL people, I want hope, wellness, and engagement. I want people to speak out, find their voice, and find their WHY."

Duran is in Estes to help identify the boundaries in a social system that created an underserved community in the first place, and then find and implement solutions– long-term systemic solutions, not quick fixes or statistical one-off institutional accolades.

“I was a member of a nonprofit summer theatre troupe in downtown Niagara Falls as a kid. We would go and “pass the hat” after each performance. I consider that to be my first foray into fundraising. Who can resist a ten-year-old with a sparkly top hat? I am still a fundraiser, I am a volunteer, I am a donor, and I am raising my family to believe that philanthropy is a family affair. You are never too young (or old) to get involved.”

Alison’s introduction to Estes Valley nonprofits began in 2000 through her work with Hobert Office Services. After a brief 13-year break to be a stay-at-home Mom, and a quick move to Maine and back, Alison was fortunate enough to begin working with the Estes Park Nonprofit Resource Center in the Fall of 2015. Her time with the EPNRC has allowed her to be continually inspired. She believes there is always more to do and more to learn. "Life in Estes Park is lovely and I am so grateful to be a part of this community."

I have a long family history in Estes Park and am grateful to the generations before me that planted good seeds in this town. It feels wonderful to work together with, support, and promote the people and organizations who do good here. I am interested in a healthy and vibrant Estes Valley for me and my grandkids.
My strengths are in program management and marketing. I do the e-newsletter, the website, and graphics for the organizations. I also enjoy writing; I connect with member organizations to create the regular spotlight in the Trail Gazette, Nonprofits in the Neighborhood.
Fun Fact: I makes ceramic planters and sculptures inspired by Rockies.
