April 29 - Volunteer and Board Match Event

4-6pm
Estes Valley Community Center

Calling all volunteers! This is a match maker event for organizations and volunteers. There will be lots of opportunities for people of all shapes, sizes and skill level. There is an emphasis on helping board members (new and transitioning) find their fit on boards. We will use EstesVolunteers.org as the Matching platform. It will be fun. We swear. Cause volunteering is fun! And cause Laurie is in charge of Match Games.
The Match Connection Event is the second in a 3-part series developed for Northern Colorado to develop qualified volunteer board members. Concurrent workshops will be presented in Estes Park through the Nonprofit Resource Center and in Ft. Collins through Poudre River Public Library District. This 3 part series is sponsored by United Way of Larimer County. Part 3 is an August workshop to train existing board members.

May 5 - BBB Training
Charity Evaluation Introduction
Nonprofit Governance & Oversight Standards 1-5
Measuring Effectiveness of your Nonprofit Standards 6-7
Financials Standards 8-14

We will kick-off our first session with an overview of your local BBB, the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability and Charity Evaluation process and tips to get you started with success.
The first five standards pertain to your governing board as they have the ultimate oversight authority for your charitable organization. These standards seek to ensure that the volunteer board is active, independent and free of self-dealing. We will present tips for building an effective and competent board and the tools you need to do so.
The “finances” section of   BBB Charity Accreditation seeks to ensure that the charity spends its funds honestly, prudently and in accordance with statements made in fundraising appeals. This comprehensive session will take a deep dive looking at:
  • Program expenses
  • Fundraising expenses
  • Accumulation of funds and financial statements that show allocation of expenses
We will then focus on financial statements prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting GAAP principles, accurate expense reporting of charity’s expenses including any joint allocations, and reviewing your current fiscal year annual budget showing expense totals for programs, fundraising, and administration.

July 9 - BBB Training / A Look at Fundraising and Informational Materials Standards 15-20

This section of the standards seeks to ensure that a charity’s representations to the public are accurate, complete and respectful. A fundraising appeal is often the only contact a donor has with a charity and may be the sole impetus for giving. Our guest speaker will present on what information should be included in your annual report and how to best tell your nonprofit’s story through your website, social media pages, blog and community events as well as through required website disclosures and privacy policies for full transparency. We will also discuss online reputation management and how your nonprofit can benefit from a positive online presence as well as how to set up your Google My Business page.

BBB, I want to hear from you!
