THE BOARD, VOLUNTEER TRAINERS AND FACILITATORS
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Eric Adams: Eric has been a local nonprofit and for-profit leader
since 1995. He is the owner of several businesses, including CrossFit Estes
Park and a martial arts school, IKA Dojo. Eric served as Executive Director
of the Muriel L. MacGregor Charitable Trust for 13 years, developing
educational programs at the Historic MacGregor Ranch with students from
kindergarten through college age. He is involved with numerous non-profit
boards, and currently chairs the Estes Valley Historic Society. Eric
inspires students of all ages as a skilled community facilitator, rancher
and master karate instructor.
Ludie Dickeson: Ludie comes to the issues of organizational growth from multiple professional
perspectives: teacher, executive director of an award-winning adult literacy
program, manager for training programs for a higher educational consulting firm,
and learning and development officer for a large corporation. She has authored
numerous materials for organizational development, and is the co-author of a
video-based customer service program used by hundreds of organizations
nationally. She has consulted with colleges, organizations and associations to
help implement staff training and development improvements. She managed a
customer service program for a 3,100-employee corporation. Her commitment to
community service is evidenced by her leadership of dozens of nonprofit local
and statewide boards in five states over 40 years. Ludie has been a speaker and
workshop presenter at state, regional and national meetings on a variety of
topics. She holds B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Missouri.
David N. Hemphill:
David is licensed as an Enrolled Agent and has 15 years experience as a tax
accountant. David has a BA in Computer Science/Physics from the University of
Colorado. He will utilize his seven years of experience using Quick Books and
related software, and 8 years of experience as Treasurer of various nonprofit
agencies, in bringing the accounting and financial workshops to Estes Park.
Lee Lasson: Lee is owner of Estes Park
based businesses On-Line Consulting, Estes Park On-Line’s TourEstes.com, and
President of FrontDesk, Inc.. Lee is a software developer, Information
Technology Consultant, host, and network specialist. In Lee’s 25 year career he
has consulted with nonprofit organizations of various sizes and has extensive
board experience in a community consumer cooperative. Lee serves as a founding
board member of the Estes Park Local Marketing District.
Sally Park: Sally is a professional facilitator with
extensive experience in helping boards of non-profit organizations with
visioning, improving working relationships and enhancing overall
effectiveness. Before moving to Estes Park, Sally was the Manager of
Training and Development at Georgetown University where she set up and ran
their staff leadership development program. She continues her
professional work as a consultant working with for-profit and
non-profit clients throughout the country. She has a B.A. from Tufts
University and a M.Ed. from St Lawrence University.
Claudine Perrault: Claudine is the Director of the Estes Valley
Public Library District since 2005. She maintains the Nonprofit Resource Center’s
collection of literature and resources, including on-line databases, at the
Library. Claudine has 10 years of community development experience working
with non-profit and government agencies. She has a BA from Prescott College
and Masters in Library Science from the University of Arizona.
Frank Shavlik: Dr. Shavlik has been
involved in nonprofit management for over 40 years. Program experience has been
in the areas of mental health, housing, family violence, veterans affairs, job
training, restorative justice, substance abuse treatment, daycare, youth
development, independent living, and wilderness learning and leadership
development. Fund raising has been on the state and federal level, and involved
capital as well and for operating expenses. He has served on committees for
several Governors and has been recognized by The Governor and the House and
Senate of the State of Delaware for program excellence. He has served on the
boards of many nonprofits as an officer and member. He is the author of several
published articles. He received his B.A from Columbia College, and M.S. and
Ph.D. in Counseling and Human Relations/Speech Communications from the
University of Kansas.
Catherine (Katie) Speer: Katie has a BS
and MA in Speech and Communications from Northwestern University. She has 12
years of Community Relations experience with the YWCA in California, 12 years
experience as a YWCA Center Director, where she focused on grant writing and
budgeting for childcare programs. She had another 12 years experience in Los
Angeles County 4-H work focusing on after-school childcare programs funded by
state and Federal program funds.
ADVISORS TO THE BOARD
Al Persons: Rev. Persons is a retired Episcopal priest,
long-time trainer of adult leaders, including institutional heads, their
boards, staff and all shareholders in their organizations. A founding
member and Eremites Consultant/Trainer of Associated Consultants
International, Al has aided all typed and sizes of organizations in
startups and ongoing development, helping them affirm their visions,
realize their potentials, and continually nurture and honor the
effectiveness of all their people. Al has long known that people learn
more of what they want to learn when they most want to learn it,
so he always involves his clients in planning for the outcomes of their
work with him.
Richard Gilliland: Richard received his Ed., D. from the
University of Florida in 1969 and worked as an administrator in community
colleges until 2005. He was president of Metropolitan Community College in
Omaha, NE for 20 years, retiring from that position in 2000. Metro had
achieved an annual student population around 50,000 credit and non-credit
students at its three major campuses and about 100 off campus sites.
Subsequently, he was an interim administrator at the College of Marin and
San Mateo College District in California and was state executive director of
community colleges in Wyoming. Areas of specialized expertise include
institutional planning and development, management of diverse employee and
student populations, organizational management and board/college relations.
He now is the lead bird walk provider in Rocky Mountain National Park.
VOLUNTEER TRAINERS AND FACILITATORS
Gregg Coffman: Gregg has been a
practicing attorney for 24 years, 15 of those years in Estes Park. During this
time he has gained a wide knowledge and understanding of the Estes Community,
and worked with many of the nonprofit agencies in Estes. His early experience
was as a tax specialist. He has helped many nonprofits to achieve their federal
501(c)3 status. Gregg will be teaching workshops in the regular schedule
and will be available for consulting to individual agencies on a reduced rate
fee.
Robert C. Dickeson: Dr. Dickeson
recently retired as senior vice president for policy and organizational learning
at Lumina Foundation for Education, and is a consultant to several national
organizations. President Emeritus of the Univeristy of Northern Colorado, he
has served as the chair of the cabinets of governors in two states (Colorado and
Arizona), as President and CEO of Noel-Levitz Centers, Inc., a national
consulting firm, as a division president for management in the finance industry,
and as a professor/administrator at five universities. A fund-raiser for over
40 years and an officer or board member of 30 organizations, he has consulted
with several hundred private and public organizations at the local, state and
national levels. Author of over 150 publications, he received his Ph.D. in
Political science from the University of Missouri.
Doug Frisbie: Extensive experience writing and evaluating grants,
including preparing budgets and use of data to define problems.
Milt Garrett: Dr. Milt Garrett is an international Quality consultant in the
application of Total Quality Management (TQM) approaches to service and
product delivery. He has been recognized with national and state teaching
excellence awards and has presented to more than 200 audiences a year. He is
listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in
Executives and Professionals. Garrett is a counselor for S.C.O.R.E. (Service
Corps of Retired Executives), an accredited Business Coach for the U.S.
Small Business Administration, and an honorary life member of the New Mexico
Branch, Associated General Contractors of America. He is an author and
contributing editor to several organizations. He is a graduate of Texas A&M
University, the Disney University, University of Northern Colorado, and
attended others. He taught TQM principles in Australia, Mexico, Europe,
Indonesia, China, Russia (2000+ business owners and/or managers to date),
and across the USA. Garrett has been consulting and teaching leaders in
business, government, and schools since 1971.

Richard Guest: Dr. Guest is currently a
Senior Management Analyst for the Larimer County Division of Health and Human
Services. and an affiliate faculty member at Colorado State University. He is a
licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. in Psychology from Garrett Theological
Seminary at Northwestern University. He holds academic degrees in psychology,
theology and biology, plus graduate studies in sociology. He has been active in
forming or providing board or staff leadership for programs involving conflict
mediation, mental health, restorative justice, and other human service
activities. He holds citations for program development from various entities,
including the Massachusetts House of Representative.
Donna Shavlik: Donna came to Estes Park
after serving as the Director of the Office of Women in Higher Education at the
American Council on Education in Washington, D.D., for 24 years. Prior to that
time she was an administrator and teacher in higher education at several
institutions, focusing on Sociology and Women’s Studies. She has extensive
experience with fundraising and grantwriting, and is a frequent consultant on
diversity issues. She now serves on the boards for several nonprofits in Estes
and nationally. She received her education at Colorado State University and the
University of Kansas.
